Why Third-Party COA Testing Matters When You Buy Research Peptides Online
A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is only useful if you know how to read it — and only trustworthy if it came from somewhere other than the company trying to sell you the product. When you buy research peptides online, third-party lab verification is the one piece of due diligence that actually confirms what’s in the vial, rather than what the listing says is in the vial. Here’s how it works and how to check it yourself.
Why “Third-Party” Is the Part That Matters
Any supplier can generate a document that says “99% pure.” The word “third-party” is doing the real work: it means the testing was performed by a laboratory with no financial stake in the result, using its own equipment, and reporting through its own channels — not a PDF handed to the supplier to publish however they like. That’s the difference between a claim and a verifiable fact.

What’s Actually Inside a COA
A complete report generally covers three things:
- Identity confirmation — typically via LC-MS (liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry), confirming the tested material is actually the compound it’s labeled as. This is the step that catches mislabeled or substituted material; a purity number alone can’t.
- Purity — typically via HPLC-UV (high-performance liquid chromatography), expressed as a percentage of total peptide content in the sample.
- Net content — the actual measured amount of peptide in the specific vial tested, which can vary from the labeled fill weight due to normal variance in lyophilization.

How to Actually Verify a Report Yourself
Don’t take a summary at face value — check the primary source. For a Janoshik report, the verification link takes you directly to janoshik.com, where the task number and access key on the page should match what’s printed on your product. For a Freedom Diagnostics report, the PDF is hosted on their own domain, not the seller’s; check that the accession number in the file matches the one referenced on the product page. If a supplier can’t provide a link you can check independently — only a document they generated themselves — treat that as a gap, not a formality.
Match the Report to the Batch You’re Actually Receiving
Even a legitimate, independently-issued report is only useful if it’s for the batch you’re actually getting. Check the report date and accession or task number against what ships with your order. This is a bigger issue than it sounds: peptide suppliers restock regularly, and a report from a prior batch tells you nothing about the one currently in the box.
